Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

A few weeks ago my husband, Mukunda, told me that he signed up to “walk a mile in my shoes”. He and a group of guys from his Crossfit Pisgah class, as well as his company Dixon Pacifica Real Estate were going to wear high heels and walk a mile to raise money for domestic violence awareness. The walk benefits Our Voice. “Our VOICE, Inc. is a non-profit crisis intervention and prevention agency which serves victims of sexual violence, age 13 through adult, in Buncombe County. The agency was founded in 1974 as an all-volunteer grassroots organization. The agency remained underground until 1982 when we received our non-profit status and the first employee was hired. Now, 35 years and considerable growth later, Our Voice employs seven paid staff and over 50 volunteers, working both to support the healing of survivors of sexual violence and to prevent future acts of sexual violence.”

We arrived at the event Saturday morning and were so surprised by the huge turnout and the great energy in the crowd.

The registration fee was only $10 for each participant. We didn’t have time to find size 13 women’s shoes for Mukunda. Our Voice had a booth with all kinds of options for men to choose from for only $5. We headed to the booth to do some “shopping”. Mukunda settled on a pair of wedges. I said next year he has to go with stilettos to really experience the pain of beauty!

The guys from Crossfit Pisgah.  Awesome job, guys! Even the Asheville Rugby League participated!  I like the fluffy white stilettos on #7.

Mukunda finishing the race!
I was so proud to see all of these guys come out to support such a great cause! To learn more visit
